March 2 is Dr. Seuss' birthday! Classrooms everywhere are celebrating by reading his books and crafting for the celebration...
In Seussville, you'll find printable activity sheets to print off and let the kids color or cut out... or you can try some of these ideas we did at Lakeshore Learning.
1. Bowties - Such a fun treat. This was so easy to do (matter of seconds) but yet the hardest thing to get the kids to wear. Still, it makes for a great costume and party idea too! Scrunch a sheet of felt in the middle and tie with a pipe cleaner. Attach a strand of yarn to the middle using masking tape - and ta da!
2. Homemade books - what Dr. Seuss is known for - books, and with the simple assembly of construction paper and white copy paper, we decorated and binded the pages together by punching two holes with the hole puncher, and sliding a pipe cleaner to hold in place. Decorate the cover with what ever craft supplies you have on hand (tissue paper, gems, glitter) or use one of the printable sheets to cut out and paste for the cover.
3. Hats of course! - Using a sentence strip, have the kids decorate with stickers, wiki sticks, and other fun supplies, then attach simple cut outs from their favorite book. Lakeshore used "apple" cut outs numbered "1" and "2" to affix to the top - pretty cute isn't it?
Other great craft and activity resources on the web:

Child Fun and A to Z Teacher Stuff - activities based on popular Dr. Seuss books.
... and if all this crafting and rhyming makes you hungry, how about whipping up some of these red and white hats?
